Eighth Grade Career Day - The eighth grade students visited Four County Career Center and Northwest State Community College as part of their career exploration. They visited the different labs and were given some hands-on experience. They also learned about the many opportunities available to them.

Distirct One Honors Festival - Nolyn Burkholder, Sydney Cobb, Makenzie Short, and Michael Short were selected to participate in District One Honors Festival on Sunday, January 29. The band rehearsed Saturday, January 28, at Sylvania Northview high school and performed Sunday at the Stranahan Theater in Toledo.  The guest clinician was Dr. Chad Nichols from Indiana-Purdue at Ft. Wayne.

Junior High Honors Choir - Congratulations to the following students selected for the 2012 Ohio Music Education Association District 1 Junior High Honors Choir:

Allie McQuade, Grace Villanueva, Miriam Beck, Graeme Short and Therin Smith

These students were selected out of hundreds of other applicants from over 60 schools in Northwest Ohio.  Their performance will occur on January 29, 2012 at the Stranahan Theater.  Congratulations to these students on their fine accomplishments!

Veterans Honored - On November 11, Veterans’ Day, Mr. Beck’s homeroom students honored some of our local veterans.  Each student completed a short biographical sketch of the veteran and gave a speech in front of the group of veterans.  A total of 17 veterans were on hand to hear the speeches, talk with the students, and share other stories with them.  Both students and veterans enjoyed the day.  Two WW II veterans were 90 years old, with one of them rising to the rank of Colonel in the Army.

Community Walks - The Archbold R.O.C.K.S. program has had five community walks so far this fall.  The walks begin at 9 a.m. on the Archbold Middle School blacktop and include a 1-mile route, a 2-mile route and a 3-mile route. Each walk will be hosted by a local business, which will provide a healthy drink at the end of the walk.  The final three fall walks will be hosted by Rich Ford on November 19.

The objectives of the community walk are to get the community together to make and model healthy choices with our children and to enjoy the company of those we might not normally come in contact with.  In addition the walks provide a safe group environment where the community can be fit together and enjoy our community surroundings.  Another objective is to have families practice being active together.

There will be a drawing on November 19 and the prizes are a one-month family membership to Fusion, a bicycle, a Mary Kay gift, and two pairs of zoo tickets. As of November 16, we have walked 398 miles plus whatever that last walk yielded.

Respect Assembly - On November 2, AMS welcomed the Fulton County Board of DD and guests to share their message with students and staff to "Spread The Word, To End The Word." Through video segments, guest presentations and student-led skits, the audience learned that the word, "retard" is hurtful and demeaning to people with intellectual disabilities and should be replaced with words of dignity that build others up. At the conclusion, students and staffs were asked to take the pledge to help promote the new "R-word: Respect." Visit www.r-word.org to take the pledge!

Grandparents Visit AMS - Friday, October 7, grandparents of fifth grades students invaded the halls of Archbold Middle School. The fifth grade choir performed to the grandparents along with a trip through the classrooms to view projects completed by the students.

  • Parents need to be aware that all doors will be locked at 3:30 p.m., after school, except the Stryker Street exit, which will be locked at 4:30 p.m.
