Kindergarten

[Kindergarten] [Grade 1] [Grade 2][Grade 3] [Grade 4]

The amount of testing students will experience during their school careers has increased over the past several years. The purpose of providing this letter is to help parents stay informed about the testing that their child will experience during the present school year.

All kindergartners will be given a Kindergarten Readiness Assessment-Literay (KRA-L) test within the first six weeks of the school year. Teachers will individually administer the readiness assessment tests to the students. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the pre-reading skills that children bring to school. This assessment is based on state standards for pre-kindergarten skills and the information will be reported to the state.

Kindergartners will also be involved with the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) assessment three times during the school year.  DIBELS is designed to gather benchmark data, which means assessing all students three times a year.  This information will help the school to monitor student progress more closely and provide intervention.

Any new child who enrolls in kindergarten at Archbold Elementary after six weeks of school has been completed will be given the readiness assessment or the diagnostic screening test within 30 days of enrolling. The time of the year that the student enrolls in the district will determine which test is given. The diagnostic screening test will measure a child’s ability in reading, math, and writing. The purpose of these tests is to help the teacher determine the student’s academic strengths and weaknesses.
