100-Day Celebration
Kindergarten Registration - Archbold Elementary School will register kindergarteners for the 2010-2011 school year March 2-4, 2010.
Registration will be held from 9:00 AM-5:00 PM on March 2 and 3, and from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM on March 4. Parents of children who will be five years old on or before August 1, 2010 are asked to bring the child’s birth certificate, social security number, immunization records, and proof of residency to the elementary office during one of these days. Children do not have to be present for registration. Kindergarten screening will take place at the school March 22-23, 2010. There will be no classes for this year’s kindergarten students on those two days. Parents who register their children March 2-4 will be given a scheduled appointment for the kindergarten screening at the time the child is registered. Winter Fun - Some third and fourth graders took advantage of the new fort building blocks for the playground to build a snow fort at recess on Friday, January 8. They did an awesome job!
Christmas Program - On December 15th, the second grade students under the direction of Mrs. Aliese Hill, presented “Once Upon a Starry Night” at 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. Congratulations to Mrs. Hill and all the second grade teachers and students for a job well done!
Christmas Cheer - Students at Archbold Elementary collected food items for Christmas Cheer during the week of December 7-11, 2009. We collected a total of 1,100 items. Thanks to everyone who donated items!

S.O.A.R. Reading Program (Supporting Outstanding Archbold Readers) - We are very excited to introduce a new reading program at Archbold Elementary School for the 2009-2010 school year. Thanks to the generous support of several local businesses, students are eligible to receive monthly prizes for their dedication to reading through the S.O.A.R. Reading Program. Beginning in September, classroom teachers will set a reading goal for the students in their classroom to meet each month. This goal will be well known to both students and parents. The students will have the entire month to meet the goal set by their teacher. At the end of each month, students who meet their reading goal will receive a coupon to use at the “S.O.A.R. Sponsoring Business of the Month”. We would like to thank the local businesses that have graciously sponsored this reading program. I would also like to thank Mrs. Jen Hurst and Mrs. Andrea Thiel for all the time and effort they put into organizing this program for our students over the summer.
Elementary Fees & Supply Lists for 2009-1010
Parking Lot Safety - In order to keep our students who are dropped off and/or picked up at school safer, we are going to designate a “drop-off/pick-up zone”. The drop-off/pick-up zone will be between the two cross walks in front of the school building. Students who are being dropped off will need to exit the car once you are in this zone in order to keep traffic flowing in the morning. Students being picked up after school will need to wait on the sidewalk in the pick-up zone until their ride approaches the curb in this zone. Students will not be allowed to walk to cars waiting in line outside the pick-up zone or to cars in the “second lane”. Parents are still welcome to park in the lot and come in to the school to pick up their children. Look for the cones on the sidewalk marking the drop-off / pick-up zone. Please be patient as we try to make our students safer. Thank you for your cooperation! Arrival /Dismissal Time - Buses will be arriving at 8:10 AM to drop off the elementary students. Students who walk or are dropped off are asked to arrive between 8:00 AM - 8:15 AM. There will be no supervision of children prior to 8:00 AM. The tardy bell will still ring at 8:20 AM as in the past. Dismissal time will be 3:10 PM. Breakfast Program - At Archbold Elementary breakfast will be served from 8:00-8:25 AM in the elementary cafeteria. Students who are dropped off or walk may report to the cafeteria at 8:00 AM for breakfast. Students who ride a bus will need to report to their classrooms to sign in and then report to the cafeteria for breakfast. The cost of breakfast is $1.50. More details will be provided at Open House and during the first week of school. Archbold Area Schools Named "Excellent" for Ninth Consecutive Year! The Ohio Department of Education has announced that Archbold Area Schools have achieved the status of, "Excellent with Distinction,” the state's new highest rating. It is the ninth consecutive year that Archbold has reached the highest rating offered by the state. The District Report Card for the 2008-2009 school year shows the progress districts have made on four measures of performance including: 30 state indicators, a performance index score, adequate yearly progress, and now Value Added. The combination of the four measures is the basis for assigning state designations to districts and buildings. Archbold Elementary School also received an “Excellent with Distinction” rating, meeting all 6 elementary state indicators along with the performance index score, adequate yearly progress, and Value Added. It is the eighth year in a row that the elementary has received the highest rating. The elementary results are below.
